World War One

During World War 1, the living conditions were dreadful. There were diseases, rats, and dead soldiers all around them. The soldiers used a warfare called trench warfare. Conditions in the trenches were inhumane, merciless, and uncivilized. The soldiers were in despair because they missed their homes and their families. They faced many different diseases and infections while living in the trenches. Many new deadly weapons were introduced during this time period. For example tanks, machine guns, submarines, planes, and probably the worst one, poisonous gases. Living in these trenches made it hard to escape from the poisonous gases. Therefore,their families through letters. The soldiers felt the only way to escape the tragedies of war was by writng their thoughts and feelings about the war to their loved ones back at home.
